Case Study 1>
Cobham Murphy was approached for a second opinion when a client of a well-known and established firm of chartered accountants in Liverpool advised him to settle an investigation into his affairs by the the Inland Revenue's Special Compliance Office (SCO) with a payment of £500,000.

John Green and Liz Coleman undertook a detailed review of all relevant material and concluded that there was no case to support such a settlement with SCO. Cobham Murphy was instructed to assume responsibility for negotiations with the Inland Revenue.

A Report was prepared which was used as a basis for eventual settlement with the Inspector, who accepted that no further taxes were payable. The client therefore saved £500,000, which he would have paid to the Inland Revenue's Special Compliance Office if he had not consulted Cobham Murphy.
